Club News by Eileen Moss

1/25/2018

Our Metal Rocks show in November was very well attended.  We held the event the same days and time frame as the Potter’s show, so a 4 day event with approximately 1200 visitors.  The show was successful for all of our participating members.  We were in the Rehearsal room which was a wonderful space.  Next year, the Potter’s have booked this space, so we will be in the Activity/Gallery room on the first floor.  This show is shaping up to be an annual event.
  • Our shop is now back at full scheduling.  For full details, please check the calendar at our website at www.mineralclub.ca.  We have increased our open shop times.  We currently have open shop Sunday’s 1-4pm, Tuesday’s 400-830pm, Wednesday’s 10-1pm and 630-830pm, and Thursday’s 1145-130pm.
  • If you are interested in taking any of our courses, please contact Eileen at 613-384-4439.  Silversmithing courses continue throughout the year as do other specialized courses.  These are posted as well on the club’s website at www.mineralclub.ca
  • Family day is Monday February 19 at the Tett Centre.  Heather Kushum Sheedy will be providing courses for attendees at the course. This is in the planning stage yet, but she is planning on offering  a course on how to make wire people with beads for embellishment (such as family members), and a course on either wire rings or mini trees.  If you would like to attend, please contact Eileen to secure your spot.  If you would like to volunteer to assist Heather, again please contact Eileen.  Course cost is donation only.
  • Gem Storm this year will be Saturday May 26 and Sunday May 27, 10-6pm and 10-5pm.  We moved the date from June to avoid the heat and noisy fans.  Let’s hope the event will continue to be successful.  If you can volunteer your time, please call Eileen at 613-384-4439.Positions needed are volunteers for the door, children’s mine, jewellery workshop and setting up tables Friday or taking down on Sunday.  Many hands make light work.  As well, if you volunteer during the show, admission is free.  Our member table was able to expand and was very successful.  If you have items that you would like to sell at the member table, again contact Eileen.  The only charge for selling your items is the volunteering of your time.
