beginner silversmithing
The Beginner Silversmithing course is 15 hours in length, divided into 5 sessions of 3 hours each and class size is limited to 8 students with two instructors.
Our Beginner Silversmithing courses are very popular and courses, once posted, usually filled in 1-2 days. If you would like to be on an email notification list when spots open up, please email Eileen at [email protected]
Course dates and times vary throughout the year with a break over the summer. Usual timeframes for the beginner course are Monday daytime (10am-2pm), Monday or Thursday evenings (630-930 pm), Friday afternoons (4-7 pm), Sunday daytime (9am-1pm) and at other times based on volunteer instructor availability. The course is only available to club members (membership is $20 adult or $25 family) and cost for the course is $95. This cost does not include the cost of any silver you would need (typically $25-$40). All equipment and tools needed are provided at the club (370 King Street West –second floor of Tett Centre). A course outline is emailed to everyone once the class participants are confirmed
No experience working with silver or copper is required. We will teach you how to cut, shape, sand, solder and finish your pieces to create bezel set rings, pendants and more. We however ask that:
· Students be a minimum of 12 years of age. Students 12-14 years must take the course with a parent or guardian. Students 15 years of age or older can take the course independently.
· If corrective lenses are required, please bring them as we work with fine detail.
· If you have special needs please contact Eileen at 613-384-4439 prior to registering to discuss whether or not these needs can be accommodated in the course
