Linda Tsuji, the curator of the Miller Hall Mineral Museum has volunteered to lead our Junior Program at KLMC, which will start in October.
We will be accepting children from the ages of 8-12 years of age. Enrollments will be accepted until the course is full. Since the program does not change much from year to year, each child should only attend once.
Sample topics and activities are mineral identification, creating your own collection, fossils, and hands on activities to create jewellery, gem trees etc. Details are still being worked out.
There will be a meeting each month, generally on a Friday evening. The first meeting date is Friday, October 18 from 6-8pm at the club with a welcome, registration, and talk about the Origin of the Earth. Dates have also been set for November 15 and December 13, and dates for January, February and March will be communicated as they are set.
All children must have a membership to the club for insurance purposes. Family memberships cost $25. We will be charging a fee of $30 for the program, to cover the cost of materials. The children can expect to take home those projects they work on at the club. Enrollment in the program will be limited to 8 children, with one or two adult instructors. Parents or guardians can drop off their children or stay and join in the fun.
