  • Our first meeting for the Fall was Friday October 20 at the club.  Loralee Idler taught us how to make bird’s nest pendants with a bit of wire and a few egg shaped beads.  We had 10 members out to learn this cool technique.  Thank you so much Loralee.  It was a fun night
  • This Fall we will be participating again in our second annual Metal Rocks sale and show. It’s the last weekend of November and will coincide with the Potter’s show and sale in the Malting Tower. Show dates and times are Thursday Nov 23 5-9pm, Friday Nov 24 10-9pm, Saturday Nov 25 10-5pm, and Sunday Nov 26 10-3pm.  We will be in the Rehearsal room on the second floor (same floor as our shop) and will have ~20 members selling their creations.  If you have the opportunity, do please stop by.  It’s a great opportunity to buy those special gifts for Christmas or other occasions.
  • Our shop is now back at full scheduling.  For full details, please check the calendar at our website at www.mineralclub.ca.  We have increased our open shop times.  We currently have open shop Sunday’s 1-4pm, Tuesday’s 4-830pm, Wednesday’s 10-1pm and 630-830pm, and Thursday’s 1145-130pm.
  • We are offering free flex shaft instruction by Janet Ross, Friday’s 3-4pm periodically throughout the year.  If you would like to register, please contact Eileen at emoss@cogeco.ca. As well she has created an awesome resource on our website at www.mineralclub.ca.Resources  Just go to the resources tab and select “ How to Use the Flex Shaft”

Meetings for the Fall
  • November 10th 715pm at the Shop.  Alfred Newnham will be hosting a mineral identification night.  Details to follow, but this should be a hands-on fun way to learn how to identify minerals and gem stones.  If you have any stones you would like identified, do bring them along.
  • December 8th 715pm at the Shop.  This is our annual Christmas potluck party. This is a fun event for everyone in your family.  We will have a Christmas appetizer/Cheese ‘n Cracker/Raw Veggies/Fruit/Sweet treat type pot luck meal.  The above meal can be nibbled on throughout the evening.  If you haven’t yet been to our shop, this will be a great chance to check out our home at the Tett.  For the juniors, we will have a rock craft to create.  After the potluck get-together, we will have a Christmas quiz or caroling and a gift exchange.  This is a very informal night and a great chance to meet up with KLMC friends.  It’s also a nice way to start the holidays.  So, mark the date on your calendar and bring with you a present related to the club interests such as a mineral specimen, rock slab, cabochon, piece of jewelry or anything else appropriate. Parents of small children should bring a gift suitable to their child marked with their name on it.  Please wrap your gifts in Christmas paper.  There should be a gift for every member (child or adult) attending.  Santa will be on hand to help distribute the gifts.  Please bring as well a contribution to the potluck meal, probably enough for 8 people.  Please call or email Eileen Moss at emoss@cogeco.ca or 613-384-4439 to let her know what you are planning on bringing or to get suggestions of what is needed to round out the meal.  The club will supply the punch and coffee.
