  • Our shop is now back to full scheduling.  For full details, please check the calendar on this website.

  • Our current open shop times are Sundays from 1-4pm, Tuesdays from 10-1pm and 630-830pm, Wednesdays from 10-1pm and 630-830pm.  In May we will be adding a Thursday open shop as well, 1030-130pm.
  • On Tuesday and Wednesday evenings, we teach lapidary skills or how to cut and polish gemstones.  Training is free and all equipment is provided. By the end of the evening, you will have created a polished cabochon and have learned how to use the small saw, grinders, and sanders.  If you wish to learn how to use the large saws, please schedule your visit for Wednesday evenings
  • Open shop times are designed for members to work independently on their silver or stone projects.  An instructor is on hand to provide direction or assistance when needed. Only students who have taken the beginner silversmithing course and are familiar with the equipment should use the shop at these times.
  • We have begun to offer silversmithing classes again.  If you would like to take a beginner course, please email Eileen Moss at lapidary.moss@gmail.com to be put on an email notification list for upcoming courses
  • Our Spring Metal Rocks show and sale will be Thursday, April 28, 5-9pm, Friday, April 29, 10-6pm, Saturday, April 30, 10-5pm, and Sunday, May 1, 10-3pm. We will be in the Rehearsal room on the second floor.  This show is being held in conjunction with the Potter’s spring show and is an excellent opportunity to get all those Mother’s day unique gifts
  • We have not yet scheduled any monthly meetings or activities but I hope to have our annual rock auction in April or early May, just waiting for Covid restrictions to ease
  • We are working on a new venue for our annual Gem Storm show in October, as the Ambassador is under construction and not available.  The dates will be Friday, October 14, 5-9pm, Saturday, October 15, 10-6pm, and Sunday, October 16, 10-5pm.  Do mark this date on your calendar.

  • Our shop is now back at full Scheduling.  For full details, please check the calendar at our website at www.mineralclub.ca.  Our current open shop times are Sunday’s from 1-4pm, Tuesday’s from 4-830pm, Wednesday’s from 10-1pm and 630-830pm, and Thursday’s from 1145-130pm.
  • We have added a “Beyond the Basics” and a “Beginners 102” course to our current beginner’s silversmithing courses.  These new courses take silversmithing skills to the next level and should be very popular.  If you are interested in taking any of our courses, please contact Eileen at 613-384-4439.
  • Beginning in the Spring, we will as well be offering bead courses, wire wrapping courses and a bead club for those enthusiasts.
  • We have purchased a new tool for the shop.  It is used to create the wrap around strip on polished stones for wire wrapped settings.
  • Family day is Monday February 18 at the Tett Centre.  Heather Kushum Sheedy will be providing courses for attendees for our courses on Gem Tree and wire wrapped rings.  For a full description of all the events happening at the Tett, check out the website at https://www.tettcentre.org/events/family-day-open-house .
  • As our Metal Rocks show was such a success, we will be having a smaller version of the show and sale Saturday May 4 10-5pm and Sunday May 5 10-3pm.  We will be on the first floor in the activity room.  It’s a smaller space but the Potter’s show will be in the Rehearsal room on the second floor and traffic through the Tett should be excellent. The show and sale is a great opportunity for our members to showcase and sell their unique creations.  Do mark that date on your calendar and plan on stopping by.
  • The date for Gem Storm this year is Friday October 18th from 10-9pm and Saturday October 19 from 10-6pm in the Ballroom at the Ambassador hotel.  Do mark this date on your calendar and help to spread the word about the show date and the new venue.  Of note, it will be our 50th gem show for the club.

  • Gem Storm is over for another year.  As attendance was down, the weather remained hot and dealer sales were poor, we are making yet another change to the Gem Storm location and date and hours for 2019.  This will be our 50th annual show and as such a special one.  We have made arrangements to have the show in the Ballroom at the Ambassador hotel, Friday October 18th 10-9pm and Saturday October 19 10-6pm. Notice that the show will be a Friday and a Saturday, not the usual Saturday/Sunday weekend.  For shopper convenience we extended the Friday evening hours to 9pm. The hotel is on a bus route, is easily accessible and has a large parking lot. And the room is air controlled, so this will make a huge improvement to the air quality of the last two show. As the venue is smaller than the arena, our dealer numbers are cut back to 29 dealers.  The Ambassador will do our table set-up and take down, another big bonus to this new venue.  Admission prices will remain the same at $5 per person.  Please do help to spread the word and promote our Show in 2019.
  • Summer camp went very well.  Thanks to Heather Kushum Sheedy, our very talented instructor and her two capable volunteers, Jordi and Owen.
  • We are gearing up for Fall activities at the shop.  Beginner silversmithing courses, wire wrapping courses, and a variety of experienced courses all start in September.  If you would like to register for any courses, just call Eileen at 613-384-4439
  • Culture days this year is Sunday September 30, 12-4pm at the Tett.  Heather Kushum Sheedy will be offering two courses on Gem Tree Creations, open to all.  Class times are noon-145pm and 2-4pm.  As class size is limited to 8 students per session, if you would like to sign up, please call Eileen at 613-384-4439. Open to all skill levels.
  • This Fall we will be participating again in our third annual Metal Rocks sale and show. It’s the last weekend of November and will coincide with the Potter’s show and sale in the Malting Tower. Show dates and times are Thursday Nov 22 5-9pm, Friday Nov 23 10-9pm, Saturday Nov 24 10-5pm, and Sunday Nov 25 10-3pm.  We will be in the Rehearsal room on the second floor (same floor as our shop) and will have ~20 members selling their creations.  If you have the opportunity, do please stop by.  It’s a great opportunity to buy those special gifts for Christmas or other occasions.
  • In September our shop will be back to full scheduling.  For full details, please check the calendar at our website at www.mineralclub.ca.  We have increased our open shop times.  We currently have open shop Sunday’s 1-4pm, Tuesday’s 1030-130pm & 630-830pm, Wednesday’s 10-1pm and 630-830pm, and Thursday’s 1145-130pm.  A bit later on, we will extend the Tuesday open shop times to 4-830pm.

Our Metal Rocks show in November was very well attended.  We held the event the same days and time frame as the Potter’s show, so a 4 day event with approximately 1200 visitors.  The show was successful for all of our participating members.  We were in the Rehearsal room which was a wonderful space.  Next year, the Potter’s have booked this space, so we will be in the Activity/Gallery room on the first floor.  This show is shaping up to be an annual event.
  • Our shop is now back at full scheduling.  For full details, please check the calendar at our website at www.mineralclub.ca.  We have increased our open shop times.  We currently have open shop Sunday’s 1-4pm, Tuesday’s 400-830pm, Wednesday’s 10-1pm and 630-830pm, and Thursday’s 1145-130pm.
  • If you are interested in taking any of our courses, please contact Eileen at 613-384-4439.  Silversmithing courses continue throughout the year as do other specialized courses.  These are posted as well on the club’s website at www.mineralclub.ca
  • Family day is Monday February 19 at the Tett Centre.  Heather Kushum Sheedy will be providing courses for attendees at the course. This is in the planning stage yet, but she is planning on offering  a course on how to make wire people with beads for embellishment (such as family members), and a course on either wire rings or mini trees.  If you would like to attend, please contact Eileen to secure your spot.  If you would like to volunteer to assist Heather, again please contact Eileen.  Course cost is donation only.
  • Gem Storm this year will be Saturday May 26 and Sunday May 27, 10-6pm and 10-5pm.  We moved the date from June to avoid the heat and noisy fans.  Let’s hope the event will continue to be successful.  If you can volunteer your time, please call Eileen at 613-384-4439.Positions needed are volunteers for the door, children’s mine, jewellery workshop and setting up tables Friday or taking down on Sunday.  Many hands make light work.  As well, if you volunteer during the show, admission is free.  Our member table was able to expand and was very successful.  If you have items that you would like to sell at the member table, again contact Eileen.  The only charge for selling your items is the volunteering of your time.
