Many other members are also involved in making the Club a fun and successful organization.
Meetings From October until April our general Meetings are usually held on the second Friday of every month. Every month is something different! It may be a guest speaker, a demonstration, a craft workshop, an auction or another fun event.
Field Trips From May until September general Meetings are replaced by field trips that focus on collecting specimen or learning about geological history in Southeastern Ontario and Quebec.
The Workshop From September until May our workshop is open during scheduled work times for lapidary and self-directed silversmithing. Introductory lapidary training is provided as needed by the workshop instructor. Shop fees are $2 per hour for adults, $1.50/hr for juniors (age 11-15; please note the minimum age to work in the shop is 11 years old). Silversmithing courses for beginner and experienced students are run twice in the fall and twice in winter for five week (15 hour) sessions and cost $85. Each student pays for their own sterling silver at a price of $0.85 per gram. Students learn techniques that will allow them to become proficient enough to work independently during the above mentioned workshop hours.
Annual Gem & Mineral Show Gem Storm takes place at the Portsmouth Olympic Harbour in October each year. It is always a big hit with local residents and visiting tourists.
Library The Club library is open during workshop hours and General Meetings. The Club subscribes to the Lapidary Journal (opens in new window). As well, there are many reference books for the lapidary arts, mineral collecting, identification and silversmithing.
